ENGINE/TRUCK COMPANY WORK AT ROOF FIRE ON MONROE PLACE

Shortly before noon, Engine and Truck 9 (10 Men) were alerted first due to 5214 Monroe Place for the building fire. Units from 9 arrived on the scene of a 200x150 warehouse with smoke showing from the roof. The Engine crew stretched a line to the roof, while the Truck company threw ladders and set the arial to the roof. Once on the roof, crews found three lint bins off and a 50x50 area of the roof on fire. Crews from 9 and 33 operated on the roof for an hour, while Engine 55 and half of Squad 33 worked opening up the machines down below. After an hour, Command (Chief 12) held 2 and 2. Company 9 cleared the scene at 1325 hours.


 
   
   
SMALL KITCHEN FIRE AT THE OLD HILLTOP APARTMENTS

Just after lunch, Engine 94 was alerted to 4108 53rd Avenue for the fire reported out. Engine 94 with 5 men, arrived on the scene of a two story apartment house with lite smoke showing. The crew stretched a line to apartment 3 and found a small kitchen fire. The guys had the fire knocked with-in two minutes of arrival. Truck 55 and Tower 7 assisted opening up and securing the utilities. Engine 33 checked the floor above for extension (negative). After 20 minutes of work, Command held one and one for overhaul. Company cleared the scene in 60 minutes.


 
   
   
CUT JOB ON B&W PARKWAY

Around 0200 hours, units were alerted to NB 295 past Annapolis Road for the accident with one trapped. Engine and Ambulance 9 arrived on the scene with Squad 33 confirming one patient trapped. Engine 9 stretched a protection line and assisted in various other duties. Crews from 9, 33 and Squad 1 worked for a total of 45 minutes to remove the trapped occupant. The occupant was transported to P.G. Trauma center. Company cleared the scene around 0300 hours.


 
   
   
WEEKEND OF THE 13TH SEEMED JUST LIKE THE MOVIE

Well if you like Trauma's and love riding the Ambulance, this was the weekend to be here. With the weekend of the 13Th upon us, the saying "A Livable Community" was put to a test. From Friday at 1800 until Sunday morning, the crews ran the following-

1 Priority One shooting on Kenilworth Avenue, 3 stabbings on Annapolis Road, Multiple assaults in the "Roger Heights" area of the first due, Trauma from a motor cycle accident and numerous other calls. Early Sunday morning, the Engine and Ambulance were alerted to 57th Avenue and Annapolis Road for the pedistrian struck. Crews arrived to find a man was sleeping at the bus stop, when a vehicle plowed through the bus stop. The only words he could say was "What an alarm clock". Patient was checked out and the crews returned to service. During the times listed above, 47 calls were answered by the Volunteers at Bladensburg.

Shortly after midnight, units from the Sixth battalion were alerted to 7401 Brooklyn Bridge Road for the house fire. Units arrived on the scene of a single family home with fire showing. While on the way to fill Company 10, Engine 92 was alerted to the fire ground to assist with operations. Upon arrival, the crew assisted opening up several rooms and hitting multiple hot spots. The Engine crew worked for 60 minutes before returning to service.


 
DAY CREW TAKES IN TWO SHEDS OFF IN LANDOVER HILLS

Shortly after 1500 hours, Engine 94 was alerted "2nd due" Engine Company to the 4800 block of Glenoak Road for the garage fire. Truck 28 arrived on the scene with two sheds off in the rear of a house and held the units from 28 and 9. The Engine crew stretched a crosslay, while the Truck crew stretched the neighbors "green line". Both companies worked for thirty minutes before returning to service.


 
   
   
PUMPER WORKS AT CHILLUM TASKFORCE

Around 1430 hours, units were alerted to 6801 Chillum Manor Drive for the house fire. Units arrived on the scene with fire showing from two floors. Engine 93 was heading towards Company 44 on a fill, when they were added to the call on the "Fire Taskforce". The 4 man crew arrived on the scene and assisted hitting hot spots and various other duties. All units on the scene had the fire knocked with-in 30 minutes. Engine 93 cleared the scene at 1540 hours.

For the weekend, the two crews of men responded to a total of 92 emergency calls. The normal box alarms, medical locals and 30 plus runs after a severe storm went through the area Sunday afternoon.

ENGINE COMPANY WORKS AT WEST FOREST ROAD APARTMENT

Just after 0430 hours, units were alerted to 6503 West Forest Road for the apartment fire, with one possibly trapped. Engine Company 33 arrived on the scene with fire showing from the rear. Engine 93 (Second due with 4 Men) arrived on the scene next and established the "West Forest Command". Engine 94 (Third due with 4 Men) arrived next and established the secondary water supply. Both crews advanced there 400' lines towards the building, while the Engine drivers threw 4 ground ladders to the front of the building. (The first arriving Truck Company was 15th due on the run card) Engine 33 located a kitchen off with extension to the dining room. Both crews from 9 checked for extension and at the 30 minute mark, Command (BC1) held the units from 33, 9 and 55. Company cleared the scene at 0615 hours.

The line man from Engine 33 recieved minor burns to his hands during fire attack. He was transported to Med-Star for a check-up. The Volunteers at Bladensburg wish him a speedy recovery.


 
   
   
FIRE SHOWING FROM COTTAGE CITY HOUSE

Just after 1600 hours, Engines 92 and 94 were alerted to 3810 40th Avenue (55) for the house fire. Engine 55 arrived on the scene of a two story single with fire showing from side "B". Engine Company 9 with 11 men arrived next and stretched two additional lines towards the house. Engine 55 and 94 pushed down the hallway, while Engine 92 advanced up a ladder to Division 2. All three lines worked for 15 minutes to bring it under control. All first alarm units and an additional engine/truck worked for another 90 minutes opening up.

One firefighter from 55 and the home owner were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. Company 9 cleared the scene at 1900 hours.


 
   
   
ENGINE AND TRUCK CREW MISS FIREWORKS WHILE ON BRUSH FIRE AND ROOM OFF IN LANDOVER HILLS

After finishing up the holiday meal, the Engine Company was advised of a possible fire on Bladensburg Road. Engine 93 and Engine 55 arrived on the scene of a large brush fire against a warehouse. The Engine crew stretched two lines to knock the fire. Truck 9 was added to the call to provide lights and chainsaws. All companies cleared the scene in an hour.

After pulling back in the bays, Box 3011 was sounded for the house fire at 5106 70th Place for the house fire. Engine 30 arrived on the scene of a two story duplex, with smoke showing. Engine 30, 28 and Truck 9 gained entry and found the kitchen and stairwell on fire. Crews made quick work of the fire. Engine 93 stretched a line to the top floor to check for extension. After 30 minutes, Command scaled the call back to 2&1. Company cleared the scene at 0135 hours.


 
   
   
TRUCK 9 WORKS AT WEST LANHAM HOUSE

Shortly after the burgers and dogs went on the grill, units were alerted to 5613 Duchaine Drive (28) for the house fire. First arriving units found fire showing from the rear of the house. Crews worked for 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. With temps in the lower 90's, command requested Truck 9 to the scene to assist with overhaul and removal of the deck from the rear of the house. Truck 9 along with several other departments worked for almost two hours completing the assigned tasks. Truck 9 cleared the scene at 2015 hours.


 
   
   
ENGINE 93 AND TRUCK 9 WORK AT LANDOVER ROAD APARTMENT FIRE

At 1600 hours, units from Company 9 and Battalion 1, were alerted to 6513 Landover Road for the Apartment fire. Engine 33 arrived on the scene with smoke showing from a second floor unit. Engine 93 arrived on side "D" and stretched a line to the floor above. Truck 9 arrived and threw 4 ground ladders to side "C" and went to the floor above to open up. With a quick knock on the fire and minimal extension to the floor above, Command started releasing units with-in the hours. Company went ready at 1650 hours.


 
TRUCK RUNS ANOTHER FIRE IN SEAT PLEASANT

At 0330 hours, Truck 9 was alerted third due special service to 6200 Foote Street (Company 8) for the house fire with injuries. Engine 8 arrived on the scene with fire showing. Truck Company 9 arrived on the scene and established the RIC team. The crews assignment was quickly altered and re-deployed to the top floor to assist. Companies operated for 30 minutes before bringing her under control. Truck 9 opened up, threw additional ladders and various other duties on the fireground. All crews worked together for an additional 90 mintes opening up. Truck 9 cleared the scene at 0500 hours.


 
   
   
ENGINE 94 AND TRUCK 9 TAKE IN MORNING FIRE IN LANDOVER HILLS

Just before lunch, Engine 30 was alerted to the 4200 block of 74th Place for an outside fire. Engine 30 arrived at 4203 74th Place with a working fire on the first floor of a single family. Engine 94, Truck 9 and the Chief responded on the call with 10 men. Engine 94 arrived picking up 28's supply line and stretched a line to the top floor to work on extension. The Truck arrived and established the RIC team. The crew threw additional ladders, controled utilities and assisted opening up the first floor. Company remained on the scene for an additional 90 minutes opening up. Units cleared the scene around 1300 hours.


 
   
   
TRUCK 9 RUNS FRESNO STREET HOUSE

After seven weeks of being out of service, Truck 9 was alerted to 7110 Fresno Street (Company 8) for the house fire. Units arrived on the scene with a working fire on the top floor. Truck 9 with 6 men arrived on the scene and established the RIC team on side "A" of the house. Interior crews stretched multiple lines inside and had the fire under control with-in minutes of arrival. The Truck crew assisted with outside duties and were released with-in 40 minutes of arrival. Company maintained an additional crew in quarters.
